Living Colour hit NYC this past Friday night (11/28), performing to a packed Irving Plaza. Special guests Hey Guy opened up the show with an intriguing sound. A mesh of jazz, punk, and alternative rock. The band also set themselves apart from many musical acts out right now, featuring an electric violin. The highly energetic band kept all eyes on them throughout their set and was the perfect warm up for Living Colour.

The audience cheered with excitement as Living Colour made their way on to the stage, playing their signature heavy/funky riffs. When the band finished their intro, Vernon Reid greeted fans with “Ah, I see. You guys came here for the REAL black Friday.” Everyone laughed and continued head banging to the beat of hits like “Open Letter”, “Vivid” and “Nothingness.”

Songs like “Love Rears It’s Ugly Head” and “Cult of Personality” had everyone dancing/headbanging and singing back to Corey. 26 years after their breakthrough success, Corey is still able to belt out high-pitched tunes, an ability that left everyone impressed. To end the show Corey told the audience “Please give it up for my nephews, Unlocking The Truth!”, a real treat to everyone there. Together they played their final song, an instrumental which gave Unlocking the Truth the spotlight and a sign that Living Colour is now passing the torch to the next band who will break the mold.

Living Colour is celebrating 30 years of touring and recording and are back in the studio finishing up on their latest album “Shade”. The band recently cut some of their touring schedule to go back to the studio and finish up on the album. While we don’t want to disappoint our fans,” explained guitarist Vernon Reid, “we need this time to finish recording the new album. We will be back in February with new material. We really appreciate our fans’ support and want to make the best record we can.” The band will hit the road in 2015 for more tour dates.
